Animated Films: Does Age Matter?
If you truly know me, then you'd know I love animated films. At the same time, you'd also know that I'm a junior in high school right now. You see, people my age seem to believe that animated films are "just for kids". After I went public with my thoughts on "Frozen", which you can read my review HERE, the criticism came pouring in. It's not like it was all bad, some people liked it just as much as I did. But then there were other people, people who believed that a guy like me had to "grow up". That a guy like me had to stop watching movies that are "just for kids".
Honestly, it hurt. I started to question myself and my beliefs, being led to believe that maybe it's time I stop watching those kinds of movies. All of a sudden, it hit me. Who cares what other people think? Who cares if other people question your beliefs? Did that stop Martin Luther King Jr.? NO. How about Gandhi? Nope. So now, whenever someone asks me if I think animated films are just for kids. I have this to say: HELL NO! You see, animated films are the kinds of movies that ANY age can watch. I don't see any age restriction or parental supervision notices like in rated R films. Whoever is my age or older, who believe that their "too cool" or "too old" to watch cartoons and animations are really just missing out on some really amazing stuff.
There's something unique about animation movies. They aren't something you can just act out (except for the voices), they're something created. It can bring out the wildest imaginations and bring them to life. It isn't really something you grow out of, but something you choose to forget. I have loved these kinds of movies ever since I was a little kid, because there's so much creativity and imagination that is involved.
I've said it before and I'll say it again- AGE DOES NOT MATTER. You can be over 60 years old and still love watching these types of movies. If you're one of those people who believe that animated films are strictly for kids and younger audiences, I can honestly say that you're truly missing out on some wonderful things. Sure, maybe some animated films are more targeted towards younger kids, but that doesn't mean older kids like me can't enjoy them either.
