Movie Review: Lone Survivor
We all have had an idol to look up to when we were little. It could have been a superhero, like Batman or Superman. Other times, it would be a person who helps your community without having superpowers, like a fireman for example. With many heroes to look up to, it would be hard to miss a marine or a soldier. I personally do not believe in war, and I don't believe that what people are doing is right. I don't pick sides, because neither side in my eyes is the "good" side. But what I do believe is this, that soldiers and marines are fighting for their lives. They will take a bullet for their partners, because in the army, they aren't considered co-workers. They're considered brothers.
"Lone Survivor" is based on the book written by the Marcus Luttrel, who is also the main character of the movie (played by Mark Wahlberg). The story is about a group of Navy Seals who are sent on a mission to kill al-Qaeda leader Ahmad Shahd. All was going according to plan, until the team ran into a small group of mountain herders. The team had to face a crucial decision: either to kill the herders, or let them go free. The problem was if they let the herders go free, they will no doubt warn Ahmad himself. The group decided to let the herders go, but at a cost. Now, the team will have ti fight their way through their most dangerous mission yet.
I got a chance to read a bit of "Lone Survivor", but I never got a chance to finish it. I enjoyed what I read, but I enjoyed what I watched even more. The film's story alone is fascinating. I would never have expected what had happened near the end of the movie. First off, Mark Wahlberg did a great job playing Luttrel. The struggles and pain that you would see on his face would make you feel a bit hurt inside as well. Acting was a great point for the film, but the sound was outstanding. Every bullet that whizzed by sounded very solid. It made you feel like you were on the battlefield, and it felt pretty cool. What I enjoyed most about the film was the determination of the Navy Seals. None of them were selfish. They were proud, and hey would put their bodies on the line for one another. It wasn't just a team of Navy Seals, but it was a band of brothers. There were a few flaws with the film, but they're so minor that I'm not even going to bother going over them.
Overall, "The Lone Survivor" did not disappoint. It was full of gunfire, suspense, and brotherly love. It was the kind of movie that you'd want to see with a group of your closest friends and loved ones. It's one of the better war-themed movies that I've seen, like
"Black hawk Down" and "Saving Private Ryan".
Overall: 9/10
