WHAT BEING "YOU" REALLY MEANS

When you're a teenager in high school, you'll end up trying to answer a question that isn't on a test or quiz- who are YOU? School is a place where you are surrounded by your peers, and where you can make a name for yourself. Some of you might care, and some of you may not. But the undeniable fact is that people are going to say things about you. Whether or not it's good or bad is completely up to you. However, your peers can play a huge role on who you decide to be.
For example, if you aren't very aggressive and your friends are, maybe you'll take on a more aggressive personality as well. You can choose to base your character off of your peers, or you can base your character off of who you really are. I have a few friends that come to mind when I think about this. One of them I've known since first grade. He's one of my closest and greatest friends. What I admire about him is how he is always being HIMSELF. No matter what people say or think, he is always who he is. It's one of the things I admire about him so much. It has also caused me to look at him as a role model. He never let anyone slow him or bring him down.
Generally, people in today's world are too focused on how people view them. They want to "fit in" and "be cool", and they think that the only way to do that is to change themselves and be like everybody else. But little do they know that they're just doing more harm than good. They're replacing themselves with who society wants them to be, and that's just not right. Originality is THE coolest thing a person can have. If you're original, you're instantly the coolest person you can possibly be. However, if you truly believe that you have to change for the better, than go for it. As long as you made this decision based off of YOUR beliefs, and not by what other people say or think, it's perfectly fine.
The point is this, BE AN ORIGINAL. It's what being "YOU" is all about. There isn't another "you" in the world, so why not be the best "you" that you can be? Who cares what other people think, like if you're cool or not? Because if you're truly being yourself, you're being the coolest person you can possibly be! Don't try to be like everybody else, because then the world will lose another original person into the hands of peer pressure. I believe that there's something special inside of all of us, so why not embrace it?
