Movie Review: American Hustle
A good friend of mine told me to have high expectations for "American Hustle", because after he saw the movie, he was completely blown away. I'll admit, I was a bit skeptical to watch the film after hearing that, because that's the same thing some people have told me about "The Wolf Of Wall Street", and you can click HERE to see what I thought about that. But after watching the movie, I can say without a shadow of a doubt or hesitation, that it is the best movie of 2013. The story takes place back in late 1970's and early 80's, where a conman named Irving Rosenfeld (played by Christian Bale), bites off a little more than he can chew. During another one of his "business meetings" with a soon-to-be client, it turns out that the 'client' is actually FBI agent Richie DiMaso (played by Bradely Cooper). After getting caught, DiMaso gives Rosenfeld an offer that could end up putting him free from the FBI's hands. Only one catch: Irving has to play by Richie's rules. In a wild operation full of mischief and powerful mafia groups, both men soon realize what it truly means when you have to hustle to survive.
There were many movies and blockbusters that have released in 2013 that have received a ton of positive credit. You can go from "Hunger Games: Catching Fire", all the way to "Captain Phillips". Although movies like these were great on their own right, none of them were as good as "American Hustle". For starters, you've got yourself an All-Star cast. Christian Bale and Amy Adams steal the show as Irving Rosenfeld and Sydney Prosser, and your supporting cast is just as great with Bradley Cooper along with Jennifer Lawrence. I loved Mr. Bale in the Batman Trilogy, but I personally believe that this movie displays his acting skills at his absolute best. He brings out a great level originality and unpredictability that really makes the film more enjoyable. Aside from the cast, I felt like the music and song choice were terrific. It fit the mood and vibe of the film, and it actually made me feel like I was right there, living in the 80's.
With all of the music, actors/actresses, and overall direction put into play, "American Hustle" is a joy to watch. It had everything you want in a good movie, and a little bit more. The Oscars had just recently released their nominees for Best Picture, and my money is on "American Hustle" to win it.
OVERALL: 9.5/10
